Zombie Club

ZOMBIE CLUB - Brings classic and cult sounds from the era of the Batcave in London and flirts with those that played and danced at the Barrel Organ, The Power House, Steptoes and Zig Zag days of old.
Playing mainly classic Goth, New Wave, Synth and Punk with a splatter of cool glam thrown in. Nothing past 1990, which appeals to the original old skool crowd but also the new faces that are hearing these sounds for the 1st time. Not just a club night but a warm social gathering of friends, brought together by the scene. Ultra friendly and very welcoming for new faces. Always remembering that we class this event as a "wanker free zone" A place to dress up if you want. No one will stare....only admire!! We have a regular following of friends that attend from across the UK and even as far as Europe.
2 years since the birth of Zombie and still going strong!! Each event is planned with enthusiasm and real passion by the DJs Had and Dave because they are doing what they love most.
Visual delight and Ghostly Host Count Porl alongside Nong Fu Teresa have the job of introducing new faces, making people feel welcome and look out for The Count strutting his stuff around midnight.....a sight not to be missed! Steve Morgan doing a sterling Job with the Social networking and making friends with those who intend coming along.
Numbers have stayed solid throughout the 2 years. It's kept fresh with new faces at every event because it's a night worth waiting for.
As for the Zombie event flyers created by Had.......collected by many and a feast on the eyes before the night even begins. It's always been worth the effort as far as we are concerned.

Johnny Kowalski & The Sexy Weirdos plus Guests

Johnny Kowalski and the Sexy Weirdos are a brass heavy gypsy punk band that formed in early 2009 after a fight in a music shop. With tuba, trombone, cornet, percussion and violin forming part of their musical attack along side the usual guitars, drums and vocals, the band quickly became a sensation on the midlands music scene, playing a wide variety of backstreet boozers, small festivals, burlesque nights and even an animal sanctuary. 2010 saw the band widen their sound to include Brazilian rhythms and New Orleans funk, as well as producing their first two music videos for the tracks Klezmer Prayer and The Morning After, ending the year on a euphoric note with a victorious Christmas party at the O2 Academy, Birmingham.
So far, 2011 has seen the band begin work on their debut album "Victory For The Monsters" and get booked for their first major festival slot at this year's Boomtown Fair, as well as further honing the intensity of their performances at a string of venues, picking up a small army of fans along the way. Rest assured, this show is not to be missed. This might be the first time you've heard the name Johnny Kowalski and the Sexy Weirdos but it certainly won't be the last.
Main support for this show comes from the wonderful Frutaloka, another Birmingham based band with a tried and tested reputation for making audiences dance with their Latino funk rhythms and beautiful female vocals. Also playing are Mad Apple Circus, a clown crazed ska punk quintet with members strewn from here to Bristol. Opening the gig are Nighties Of The Round Table, an all female folk trio making their Ballroom debut after wowing audiences with their pretty-but-not-pretentious take on modern folk.
After the show the party will continue with djs playing an eclectic mix of gypsy, reggae, mashups and whatever else keeps everyone dancing until 6am or the last man drops, whichever comes first.

This was followed up by an appearance at the O2 with Tinchy Stryder and The Hoosiers and then a show at the Shepherds Bush Empire in August. The guys worked closely with Hart media resulting in two successful radio campaigns resulting in 50 playlists for single one with 400+ plays per week.
Their self-produced videos for the first three singles were shown on The Box, Chart Show TV, Starz,AKA . Online the band enjoyed appearing on thefront page of YouTube and were featured on Muzu, Popjustice, OurZone, RockSound and more. The rest of the members followed suit and bought the necessary equipment to complete a band, although they had little to no musical experience or training.
Through much practice their music developed and they decided on the name Puressence, a name instantly identified by mostMancuniansfor the paper letters 'P'-'U'-'R'-'E'-'S'-'S'-'E'-'N'-'C'-'E', which were plastered around Manchester city centre, on derelict buildings, and on bridges (the most notable being the railway bridge oppositethe Haienda). Infa Riot plus Support

Infa Riot were formed in 1980 by Barry D'Amery and Lee Wilson, after becoming friends with the Angelic Upstarts at the Lordship pub in Wood Green north London.Their first gig was at the Lordship supporting the Upstarts. They then went on to support them on a UK tour. Two tracks were recorded for theStrength Thru Oi!compilation album in 1981 which reached No.51 in the national album chart.Soon to follow was their first singleKids of the 80'sproduced by Max Splodge which reached No.8 in the UK indie charts.
In 1982 the second single entitledThe Winnerwas released which reached No.9 in the UK indie chart. Also that year The trackPowerwas recorded for theWargasmcompilation album and the debut albumStill Out Of Orderwas released and spent a month in the national chart reaching No.42 receiving a top notch review in melody maker. This was followed by tours with the Exploited and also a one off trip to Greece to play in Athens.
In 1983, after pressure from the record company following trouble at gigs and negative press, they were advised to tone down the image and change their name to the Infas. (Mensi's nickname for them at the time). This seemed to spell the end for them as they felt they were no longer in control of the music which the fans loved and wanted to here so they reluctantly called it a day.
A couple of years later a comeback gig was organised. Unfortunately the drummer at the time thought it would be a great idea to get totally pissed to the point where he could barely stand before going on stage and let the rest of the band down badly.
And that was the end of Infa Riot..........UNTIL NOW.

The Toy Hearts plus Guests

The Toy Hearts continue to break the rules, after three completely acoustic bluegrass albums the band have decided to do something a little bit different for their 4th studio release this spring 2012
Birmingham based, sister fronted band the Toy Hearts have a reputation for delivering some of the most authentic performances of American Roots music this side of the Atlantic, and their forthcoming album Whiskey is set for release spring 2012. It is in part homage to their influences and inspirations from Western Swing, Rockabilly, Jazz and Blues, and also a collection of original new material steeped in Country and Americana sounds. Mixed in amongst their own compositions are songs by artists such as Bob Wills & His Texas Playboys, Wayne Hancock, Bessie Smith and Ronnie Self. The album was recorded in their home studio in Birmingham UK, but was edited and mixed by Grammy nominated engineer/producer Ben Surratt in his studio The Rec Room, Nashville TN.
Whiskey shows The Toy Hearts continuing to develop their own signature style of songwriting; catchy choruses, blood harmonies, hot guitar picking and as the album title suggests a healthy dose of good Country drinking songs. Multi instrumentalist Stewart Johnson really gets to exercise his talents, playing Banjo, Dobro, Pedal and Consol Steel Guitars on the record, while Sophia handles harmony vocals, electric and acoustic guitars. Hannah continues with the mandolin work, while also displaying a depth and maturity to her vocal style that is a significantly more assured than even the sultriness of the last record Femme Fatale. The Johnson family have also drafted in some musician friends to help complete the records line up: Whiskey features John Potter on double bass, Dean Beresford on drums (drummer for Richard Hawley) and Eamon McLaughlin on fiddle and harmony vocals (formerly of The Green Cards and now fiddle and harmonies for Nashville star Josh Turner).
The Toy Hearts have a growing fan base that now includes Bob Harris, Ronnie Wood and Imelda May and their previous work has won them accolades across the UK, Europe and the USA. Their forthcoming release is further evidence that they are successfully paving a path that no other UK act dares to tread.
THE TOY HEARTS BIOG:
This Birmingham based sister fronted outfit have been not-so-quietly carving out their own niche in the Americana and Roots music scene for a while now, so if you havent been to one of their shows before you are in for a real treat. And, although it may seem improbable that two young women from the Midlands would have the ability to produce authentic and innovative Country music, you really should leave those pre-conceptions at the door.
One thing about The Toy Hearts is clear: their love for the music they play and the conviction of their delivery far exceeds any simple mimicry of American music. They manage to tip their hats to their influences from Bluegrass, Country and Swing, while making their own mark, and having their own distinct style, which is quite different to that of those whom inspire them. From the heartbreak in Hannahs voice, to her sisters take-no-prisoners guitar playing, to their father Stewart's multi instrumental talents, this unlikely trio demonstrate what it means to really want to play this kind of music and truly love doing so.
Having toured extensively since making their first record in 2006, they have played gigs and festivals across the UK, Europe and USA, so they have paid their musical dues the old fashioned way by being on the road an awful lot! They have opened for the likes of Robert Plant, Imelda May, Kitty Daisy & Lewis, The Hot Club of Cowtown, Gene Watson & Ricky Skaggs. Their Nashville recorded 2010 release Femme Fatale received several plays from Bob Harris and the band went into BBC Radio 2 studios to record a live session with him in 2011.
Now on their fourth offering from their own label Wood Ville Music, new album, Whiskey is released on June 24th 2012, distributed by Proper. It was recorded in their home studio in Birmingham UK, but was edited and mixed by Grammy nominated engineer/producer Ben Surratt in his studio The Rec Room, Nashville TN. This is their first cd to be half original material half covers, and while previous recordings have been more acoustic and bluegrass orientated, this is an homage to some of the other genres that inspire the band, particularly Western Swing, Rockabilly, Jazz and Blues. As the album title suggests, there is a healthy dose of good ol drinking songs Whiskey, Pass The Jack, Me and My Gin.
It is an album about vices, drinking in particular, and coping with working in a world where the drinks are always flowing. Lyrically it deals with the fall out from failed relationships, heartbreak, lonesomeness and issues of self control, but despite this, the feel of the album remains determinedly upbeat, there is definite joy and even humour in both the playing and songs. The Toy Hearts continue to develop their own signature style of songwriting; with catchy choruses, blood harmonies, hot guitar and steel picking.
With an extensive UK tour Spring & Summer 2012, a return to the USA in October, and with fans in people as diverse asBob Harris, Robert Plant, Ronnie Wood, Rob da Bank, andImelda Mayisnt it time you saw them for yourself?
Yes it isCountryand we do like it!

Dead Skeletons plus Guests

Dead Skeletons(Iceland) came into being in 2008 as an accompaniment to an installation for a show at the Reykjavik art museum by Jn Smundur (Dead/Brian Jones Town Massacre).
Looking for a spiritual battle hymn for the show, Jn began recording with Henrik Bjrnsson(Singapore Sling/Brian Jones Town Massacre)and Ryan Van Kriedt (Asteriod #4). This initial song, Dead Mantra, became an underground hit, prompting the full length lp Dead Magick (A Records), released by the band in 2011.They have now put a live performance act together to tour internationally, beginning in spring 2012.
"From the opening drones, distorted organs and guitars wobbling from the effects of heavy-duty tremolo, 'Dead Mantra' is battle of life winning over death and the sonic palette that colours the struggle between fight and surrender is consistent throughout. In the middle of this hypnotic maelstrom come the otherwordly vocals. Bathed in echo and reverb, they attempt to find their way from a spiritual battleground that suggests a strange ambiguity over whether the desire for life can keep mortality away for just that bit longer.
'Dead Magick I' is the sound of Suicide transported to some infernal version of the Kit Kat Club as electronic pulses and throbs collide with off-kilter piano as elsewhere, most notably on'Lifu!/Live!', relentless motorik beats keep up the breathless sense of momentum. But there are more subtle moments here too. 'Om Mani Peme Hung' sees guitar lines crossing sequencers like warning shots across a ship's bow and in doing so offers more textures than would be imagined and with a total running time of 72 minutes, Dead Skeletons are masters of creating pace and drama. It's a long ride for sure but then again, reaching for the stars has hardly ever been a soft option."(The Quietus)

Adam Ant & The Good The Mad & The Lovely Posse

On Thursday, 16th October 1980, millions of living rooms across the UK,
were set on fire by the blazing performance on Top of the Pops by Adam
and the Ants. After 3 ferocious, minutes of Dog Eat Dog the phenomenon immediately began and they would dominate the charts for the following few years with extraordinary success. But this was no overnight success, Adam Ant had been working hard behind the warpaint and feathers for his moment. It had been the culmination of years of toil; the journey had started at Hornsey College of Art, where Adam had teamed up with some college friends to form the band Bazooka Joe. With Adam on bass guitar, they played the pubs and colleges around London and it was on a cold November night, in 1975, that Adam saw a group that was to change his life forever.
The Sex Pistols played their first ever gig, supporting Bazooka Joe, at St
Martins College of Art and the explosive punk band, inspired Adam to start something new. He formed The Ants and performed live repeatedly, at many venues including the Vortex and The Roxy before getting a Thursday night residency at the famous Marquee club in London. The band built a huge cult following despite being unpopular with the established music press, and in 1979 they released their debut album, Dirk Wears White Sx, which topped the independent chart. It has been said that if Adam and the Ants had got on television at this time, then they would have made it but the moderate success, made the rest of the band despondent and in early 1980, the Ants left Adam, after an offer to work with the former Sex Pistols manager, Malcolm McLaren.
With a new sense of freedom and clarity, Adam immediately put his ideas
for a new warrior sound into practice and within months had put together
a fresh band, including two drummers. The band signed a major label deal
and recorded the album Kings of the Wild Frontier which became a huge
hit, spending 12 weeks at number one and won a Best New Artist, Brit
Award. Antmania swept the nation and Adam Ant became one of the most publicised faces in Britain. Stand and Deliver, hit the number one spot for 5 weeks, winning Adam an Ivor Novello award, Prince Charming went straight to number one and a further 12 singles went top 30 . . . at one point, Adam had 8 singles in the top 40 in one week! Goody Two Shoes hit the number one spot in the both the UK and Australia. Adam celebrated his continuing success in the United States, with a Best New Artist Grammy nomination, in 1982. At a time when videos were the most popular way to promote music, Adams charismatic performances in some of the most lavish visuals of the period paved the way for his acting career.
His first solo album, Friend or Foe continued Adams success in the USA, delivering 3 top twenty hits on the Billboard Top 100 and in 1983 he
appeared on NBC Television Networks, Motown 25 Special, alongside
Michael Jackson. Second solo album Strip produced the top 5 UK hit Puss in Boots but the BBC banned both the video and the song for the follow-up single Strip. While recording his third solo album Vive Le Rock, with producer Tony Visconti, Adam set out on an acting career by appearing in a theatre production of Entertaining Mr Sloane by Joe Orton at The Royal Exchange in Manchester. In 1985 Adam performed Vive Le Rock at Live Aid and the next few years were spent concentrating solely on acting in a string of films including Nomads, Love Bites and Slam Dance as well as appearing in
several US TV shows such as The Equalizer, Tales from the Crypt and Sledge Hammer!
During the 1990s Adam, again, split his time between acting and music
chasing the performing roles whilst returning to the studio to record and
release the album, Manners and Physique, which included the UK top
20 hit, Room at the Top. The follow up album, Persuasion, remains in
limbo without an official release to this day, but in 1994 Adam set about
recording Wonderful, his next album, in Londons Abbey Road studios to
be issued the following year along with its self-titled single and the follow
up Gotta Be A Sin which were accompanied with successful tours of the UK and the United States. It would be twelve years before Adam would play live again, with an acoustic show, in 2006, at the Bloomsbury Theatre in London, where he read extracts from his recently released autobiography Stand & Deliver. The book laid bare Adams childhood and his well-documented public mental health battles. In 2008, Adam was presented with the Q Music Icon Award placing him alongside fellow recipients Paul McCartney and Bryan Ferry.
This rekindled recognition resulted in a series of low key, spontaneous gigs in 2010 which enabled Adam to select a new band and to perform several sell-out shows in London.
The Good, the Mad and the Lovely Posse, played to thousands of people last year, and after his recent successful tour of Australia, the BlueBlack Hussar is due to appear at many festivals this coming summer, before taking his raw, raucous, raunchy campaign round the UK in November.
